The ship is located at 219 Pilottown Road, on the canal and adjacent to beautiful Canalfront Park, in historic Lewes, Delaware. Historically, lightships served primarily to warn of navigational hazards and to serve as markers to the entrance of rivers, harbors, etc. They also served as weather stations to provide accurate forecasts for the safety of all the maritime trades. The Lightship Overfalls is a designated National Historic Landmark.
